Growing in Contemplative Prayer

 

If growing in union with God is the desire of your heart, why not make 2008 a year of practicing contemplative prayer.  A combination of one or all of the offerings listed below will serve your need for instruction, practice, and a faith community to support you.

  

LIVING CONTEMPLATIVELY

This program calls out to those who desire to live more contemplatively in the world, to grow in union with God and others, and to become more aware, intentional and free.  God liberates us and heals us through the practice of contemplative prayer.  It’s worth a day a month and an hour a day.  The Living Contemplatively Program will help to structure your spiritual life around 6 practices: Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, Contemplative Service, the Practice of Letting Go, Attention/Intention and Active Prayer.  Bring a bag lunch.

CLASSICS ON CONTEMPLATIVE PRAYER

We will be instructed in contemplative prayer by the best teachers.  Father Thomas Keating’s Invitation to Love is a contemporary classic on contemplative prayer as is Cynthia Bourgeault’s Centering Prayer and Inner Awakening. This session is followed by Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer 7:30 – 8:30. Donation: $150 (includes both books)

CENTERING PRAYER EVENINGS

9 Tuesdays    7:30 – 8:30 PM

We meet one Tuesday a month for 20 minutes of Lectio Divina and 40 minutes of Centering Prayer.  These evenings really help to keep your centering prayer practice alive.  There is power in the group. This is preceded by a study of the classics.  Love Offering.

A Centering Prayer Weekend provides the time, space and discipline needed to experience the inner stillness which occurs when given the opportunity for frequent Centering Prayer periods.
