Our one-day programs below represent our heartfelt desire to bring Francis House to you during this Covid-19 time to lift your spirits and calm your souls. We are offering 8 programs on Zoom and 4 outdoor programs (limited to 20 people and honoring social distancing) as our way of being available for you this month.  The donation for every program (except as noted) is a Love Offering that you can send by mail to Francis House. Please register by email (FHOP@verizon.net) so we can send you the link for the Zoom meetings.

OUTDOOR RETREAT
PRAYING WITH THE PSALMS
WANDER INTO THE WILD


          Monday, June 1          9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Walking in the woods is like wandering into the wild with God. If I remain open, God will lead me through unexplored territories and offer fresh perspectives to perplex and delight me. We will pray with the psalms and use selected excerpts from Thomas Merton’s book, Bread in the Wilderness and practice being attentive to God’s Presence in nature through the Awareness Exercise. This program will be held outside in the beauty of God’s creation. Please bring your own lunch.

PERSONAL RETREAT DAY

          Wednesday, June 3      9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Take a day away from the busyness of your life to rest a while in the Lord and experience God’s presence. Come to Francis House for silence, personal prayer and optional spiritual direction.  The day begins and ends with a brief prayer together.  Donation: $10; $40 with spiritual direction.  Please bring a bag lunch.

Prayer is contact with God. Prayer happens when the real God and the real you meet. Sometimes brief encounters are the best, especially during stressful times. This morning retreat will acquaint you with 5 short ways to enjoy direct communication with the God who knows and loves you as you are. Give it a try…spend the morning.

Let's gather by Zoom as a Francis House community to name the graces of this time of struggle. What is God's message from Covid-19 for you? How do you hope to be different in the future? Take time to listen to God and let God’s desires for you come to your mind and heart. God's grace is always enough.

9 PATHS TO WHOLENESS AND HOLINESS

          2 Sundays          9:30 AM – 2:30 PM
          June 7 and June 14

During this retreat, we will study 9 different personality types and the path to holiness and interior freedom for each. We are all afflicted and blessed by this human condition of ours. God knows what each of us needs and guides us each along a way to wholeness and holiness that is unique, yet universal. The goal of the retreat is to grow in understanding, acceptance and compassion for ourselves and others.  We all need that.  What a gift!  Donation: $100.

Let’s spend the day deepening our understanding of God’s love in the world as expressed through the life and visions of Hildegard von Bingen. We will view the movie “Vision” about her life followed by discussion and prayer.

          Tuesday, June 9          9:30 – 11:30 AM

“My thoughts make all the difference in my world.” Believe it or not, we have the ability to choose our thoughts. This freedom is essential to our spiritual well-being and emotional health. This morning retreat will help us learn to notice our thoughts as they arise and choose to accept them or replace them. With prayer and practice, we can choose our thoughts and receive a mind at peace, stilled and available for conscious thinking at will.

CONTEMPLATE GOD IN NATURE WITH MERTON


          Thursday, June 11          9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Open your eyes, ears and hearts to God’s glory in nature. We will reflect on Thomas Merton’s nature writings collected in When the Trees Say Nothing and let his words inspire us to be more attentive to the love of God vibrating through nature everywhere. We will be outdoors at Francis House enjoying what God has created and reflecting on God as a loving Creator. All is a gift of God that helps each one of us to know, love and serve God with joy and gratitude. Please bring your own lunch.

          Friday, June 12   9 AM – 4 PM 

Come for a full day of silence and prayer. Maybe that’s just what the Divine Physician desires for you in order to tend to His affection for you.  Spiritual direction included if you wish. Donation: $40, includes breakfast and lunch.

BEFRIENDING CHANGE   


          Saturday, June 13          9:30 – 11:30 AM

We all resist change and prefer the comfort of the familiar. We know that being open to change is essential for our growth and that all living things change as part of their cycle of life. We will look at some people in the gospel and in our everyday life who succeeded in making changes that were courageous and fruitful. We will bring to mind the changes we have made successfully as well. Most importantly, we will ponder just what changes God is wanting now, be they interior ones or exterior.

          Monday, June 22          9:30 – 11:30 AM

Celebrate St. Mary Magdalen! The Apostle to the Apostles will be our guide to loving and adoring Jesus is His humanity and as the Risen Christ. We will use the Scriptures and Fr. Sean Davidson’s book, Saint Mary Magdalene: Prophetess of Eucharistic Love, to draw us closer to Jesus. Please purchase your book in advance.
