Tonight’s film features G.K.Chesterton.  Limited to 12 people.  Register early.  Donation: $25

CENTERING PRAYER
INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP
            Tuesday, September 19          6:30 – 8:30 PM

What is centering prayer?  Is God calling me to this form of prayer?  Do I have a desire for union with God that seems unfulfilled by other types of prayer?  How do I “do” centering prayer?  Will centering prayer really change me?  Is the fact that I can’t quiet my mind a problem?  Come and see.  It is well worth the day.  Donation: $25.

SUNSET RETREAT
AN EVENING OF PRAYER WITH TEILHARD
            Wednesday, September 20     6:30 – 8:00 PM

Spend an evening connecting with God through the wonder of nature, the Word of God and the words of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.  God’s love and creative energy resonates through all things.  Let this time be an uplifting moment to be quietly aware of and enjoy God’s Presence.  Donation: Love Offering

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?
          Thursday, September 21                    6:30 – 7:30 PM

Come with all your questions about spiritual direction.  Perhaps you are just curious about it.  People talk about having a spiritual director.  How is it different from a counselor, or a confessor?  Would spiritual direction help you? How does a person find a spiritual director?  What kind of training do they receive?  What is the purpose of spiritual direction?  Come and see.  We’ll have a sample session for you, too, in order for you to see for yourself what spiritual direction is….and isn’t.  Donation: Love Offering

CHOOSING HOPE IN TROUBLED TIMES
           Saturday, September 30           9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Do you believe that hope is both a gift to ask for and a virtue to practice?  If you do, please come.  St. Ignatius of Loyola offers us many tools for living peacefully within while trouble prevails around us.  We will use his Rules for Discernment coupled with a daily discernment practice to help us choose and safeguard hope within us during these troubled times.  Can you give a Saturday for your own growth in peace and hope?  Donation: $25, includes lunch and materials.

THE LOVING-KINDNESS PRAYER,
CENTERING PRAYER AND THE LABYRINTH
            Sunday, October 1      9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

My hopes for this morning, which happens to be the feast of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, are many.  I want to introduce you to the loving-kindness prayer, which fills us with compassion for ourselves and others.  We will have two 20-minute centering prayer sessions, and walk the labyrinth, too.  We will practice the loving-kindness prayer often throughout the day, so it can become part of you, and you can readily use it in the car, while taking a walk, or even while falling asleep at night.  This will be a wonderful Sabbath time for you.
Donation: Love Offering

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME AN
SSJ ASSOCIATE?
            Sunday, October 1      2:00 – 4:00 PM

This session is for those interested in becoming Associates of the Sisters of St. Joseph.  You are welcome to attend this afternoon as a “come and see” experience, while you discern if God is calling you to join us in our charism of unity and reconciliation and in our mission to serve “the dear neighbor” with the same cordial charity with which St. Joseph served Jesus and Mary.  I hope you can come.  Remember that to be an SSJ Associate simply means to live out our charism and mission that “all may be one” wherever you are in whatever you do.

CELEBRATE ST. FRANCIS
LORD, MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE
            Wednesday, October 4           9:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Let’s have a wonderful celebration of St. Francis.  We will begin with liturgy in our portiuncula (outdoor chapel) on this great feast and follow with an inspiring film by Bishop Robert Barron on St. Francis. You will feel like you are in Assisi! We will proceed to spend some time outdoors, weather permitting, to walk the labyrinth and enjoy the beauty of creation as Francis would insist.  We will close with a delicious lunch to continue to celebrate St. Francis at Francis House. You will receive Murray Bodo’s delightful classic on Francis, The Journey and the Dream, to further your enjoyment of St. Francis.  Donation: $30, includes lunch and book.

ART JOURNALING
            Wednesday, October 4           7:00 – 8:30 PM

This evening retreat will help you express the content of your prayer in color.  You will be surprised as you journal with art, rather than words.  God is the greatest artist who expresses his loving creation in color.  Come and do the same.  Learn a new way to express your experience of God.  Led by Jill Snyder.  Donation: $20, materials included.

UNCEASING PRAYER
THE WAY OF THE PILGRIM
            Friday, October 6        9:30 AM – 2:00 PM

Life is above all, a pilgrimage!  Most of us find ourselves praying on the run, pleading for help as we move about frantically from one urgent task to the next.  During this retreat we will follow the advice of the pilgrim in the classic “The Way of the Pilgrim” whose mastery of the Jesus Prayer fulfilled his desire for unceasing prayer.  We will also view “The Way,” a film depicting the conversion experience of 4 pilgrims walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain.  I am hoping that this retreat experience will quench our thirst for prayer and help each of us on our life’s pilgrimage to peace, healing and union with God.  Donation: $30, includes book, lunch, movie & popcorn!

FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES
THE SHACK
            Friday, October 6        6:00 – 9:00 PM

After a light pizza and salad supper, we’ll view The Shack.  We will leave time at the end for discussion and comments on this inspiring film on forgiveness, healing, and the interaction of the Trinity in our lives.  Popcorn provided!  Donation: $20, includes supper.

TUESDAY MORNING SABBATH TIME
FINDING GOD IN CREATION
            Tuesday, October 10   9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

We will enter into this retreat by praying together St. Francis’ Canticle of the Sun to set the tone for the morning.  The rest of the time is yours to enjoy the natural beauty of Francis House by using the labyrinth, the portiuncula (our outdoor chapel), and the woods for your meeting places with God.  Do you need some time away with yourself and God?  How about taking a Tuesday Morning Sabbath?  Led by Jill Snyder. A delicious lunch follows.  Donation: $20, includes lunch.

PIVOTAL PLAYERS

Tonight’s film features St. Thomas Aquinas.  Limited to 12 people.  Register early.  Donation: $25

LETTING GO
EVERY SEASON BRINGS A CHANGE
            Wednesday, October 25         9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

"Leaves don't drop, they just let go and make a place for seeds to grow.  Every season brings a change; a seed is what a tree contains. To die and live is life's refrain.” (Carrie Newcomber) Autumn leaves, letting go, living fully into this mysterious pattern of our life journey is the focus of our day of reflection, prayer and sharing.  Using nature as our guide, we will have an opportunity to enter more consciously into the hidden transformation that God evokes in us as we respond to the subtle invitations of God to join with creation in letting go.  Led by Joann Caramanico.  Donation: $20, includes lunch.

THEN SINGS MY SOUL
            Wednesday, November 1       9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

“The aim and purpose of all music is none other than the Glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.” (J.S. Bach) Deep within each of us is an Eternal Song waiting to be sung.  Come spend the day in the embrace of music, song, in harmony with others and within ourselves as together we pray our way to the love that longs to sing our soul into being.  We will engage in a variety of music/prayer experiences.  No musical training is necessary to attend.  “There is nothing in the world so much like prayer as music is.” (William P. Merrill) Donation: $20, includes lunch.

CLASSIC IGNATIAN MEDITATIONS
            Thursday, November 2            9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

At the heart of the Spiritual Exercises are two classic meditations by St. Ignatius: The Principle and Foundation and The Contemplation for Learning to Love Like God.  I would love for you to experience them and their amazing power for consolation, clarity and peace.  We will spend the day praying with them.  You will receive additional materials to further your prayer.  Give it a try!  You won’t be sorry.  What a great way to pray on All Souls Day!  Donation: $25, includes lunch and materials.

TEILHARD’S MYSTICISM
EMERGING SPIRITUALITY IN A CHAOTIC WORLD
            Sunday, November 5        9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

The universe we live in is dynamic, creative, and beautiful. Steeping ourselves in its dynamism, sensing its evolutionary direction, and sinking into its beauty, we come to know a divine immanent presence alive and active in the universe as well as a divine transcendent presence drawing us ever into the future.  In our time together, we will consider how the universe reveals the presence of our creator God and how we can become continually more conscious of our part in its ongoing evolution.  Presenter: Sister Kathy Duffy, SSJ, PhD.  Donation: $35.  Please bring a bag lunch.

SUNDAY MORNING RETREAT TIME
            Sunday, November 19      9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

How about giving God an entire Sunday Morning?  You will love it and God will, too!  We will use lectio divina and centering prayer throughout the morning and end with liturgy at 11:30 AM.  What a refreshing and centering way to start a busy week!  Donation:  Love Offering.

ADVENT RETREAT DAY
ABANDONMENT TO DIVINE PROVIDENCE
            Tuesday, November 28           9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Advent is such a special season of grace, often lost in the shuffle of the Christmas rush!  We will travel through Advent this year with Abandonment to Divine Providence by Jean Pierre de Caussaude with a commentary by Dennis Billy.  This classic on trust in God’s goodness and providence is a perfect fit for the anxiety of our times.  I am certain that your Advent Season will be greatly enriched by this choice.  I can’t think of a better way to enjoy this holy time!  Donation $35, includes book and lunch.

THE CHALLENGE OF TRANSITIONS
            Wednesday, November 29     9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Transition is defined as the act of passing from one state or place to the next or an event that results in transformation.  Scripture is full of stories of people in transition and the fidelity of God through these sacred moments.  This day will provide an opportunity to come together for input, times of quiet prayer and sharing with others as we open to the sacredness of times of transition in our own lives and God’s invitation into this process with us.  Led by: Joann Caramanico.  Donation: $20, includes lunch.

BE BORN IN ME
MAKE MY HEART YOUR BETHLEHEM
            Wednesday, December 20        9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

This retreat morning will allow you the time and space to celebrate Christmas spiritually, as most of us do not have that opportunity on the day itself.  Spending this time with God makes a huge difference in the final days before Christmas, as you continue your preparation for the feast and will enhance your entire Christmas Season.  “I’ll hold you in the beginning, you will hold me in the end.  Every moment in the middle, make my heart your Bethlehem.  Be Born in Me.” (Battistelli) Please come.  Donation: $20, lunch included.

END OF THE YEAR RETREAT
            Sunday, December 31         9:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Since God gives us life and time and is Lord over all, it seems appropriate to end the year in prayer.  Francis House offers time, space and quiet for naming the graces of 2017 and expressing gratitude to God.  The afternoon will focus on our goals, hopes and desires for 2018.  We will bring the day to a close with a celebration of our Sunday Liturgy.  Please bring a bag lunch.  Love Offering.
